As we all know, the environment you’re surrounded by has a great impact on how you feel & the place we return to, after whatever type of day we may have had, is our home – that’s why its crucial to fully plan decorating a rental property and organize the space in a way that will increase your happiness, comfort and pleasure.
Moving into a new Cotswold rental property can be incredibly daunting and nerve-racking, so we are sharing a few tips on how you can create a home away from home, to ensure that you settle right in.
How to Create a Home away From Home
Wreaths & Doormats
Your front door is the greeting point to any guests, visitors, neighbours and deliveries that you may have, so you would certainly want to make a good impression. Wreaths aren’t just for Christmas time, they’re a lovely little way of sharing your personality-you can get creative with colours, textures, patterns and materials. The great thing about wreath’s is you have the option to make them seasonal, by adding little bird nests and eggs to represent Easter, golden autumn leaves and chestnuts for fall or cinnamon and sparkly ribbon for Christmas. Wreath’s can be artificial and store bought or you could turn it into a traditional activity to do with your family and friends.
Your doorstep is just as important, its where kids take off their muddy wellies after a walk through the meadow, returning to from a fabulous holiday (but all you really want is your own bed) and walking through countless times. You can get doormats in all shapes and sizes, and can even personalize them with your own message from the traditional ‘welcome’ to something perhaps more humorous like ‘do not enter unless you have red wine’, but the choice is yours.
Fairy Lights & Lamps
Light gives a space dimension, so adding a free standing floor lamp can add height as well as another source of light without having to hang it on the wall. You can decorate your property with the style of lamp shades you choose, or even the type of bulb and colours that it projects. Fairy lights are magical… by adding these into your home, you’re instantly transported into a tranquil and calm environment of twinkly flutters. They’re easy to drape of existing pieces of furniture, or can be hung around bed posts, curtain poles, windows and door frames.
Rugs, Cushions, Blankets & Bedding
Feeling relaxed in your home is a must, so why not combine comfort and style by sprucing up your space with colourful and patterned rugs, cushions, blankets and beddings. Rugs come in all shapes, sizes and textures so whether your vibe is clean and chic or fluffy and vibrant, there will always be a rug for you. It can add layers to your space and transform your once cold wooden floor to a comfortable paradise for your bare feet. You can also swap the cushion and bed covers out as you please, so nothing is permanent-great for those who love change.
Plants & Flowers
House plants can transform rooms into tropical gardens! But if you don’t have the time to look after them, then not a problem at all as the selection of artificial plants and homeware is continually growing. Even putting a vase of gorgeous flowers on a table or countertop immediately draws your eye.
Table Runners & Ornaments
Table runners are a great way to add some personality to your dining or work space, whilst protecting the material beneath from any spilled snacks or drinks. You can add place matts, cloths alongside ornaments like miniature sculptures, stacks of books and deliciously scented candles.
Photo frames, Window Stickers & Trinkets
Everyone wants their space to feel like their own & one of the best and simplest ways of bring memories into your property is through photos. If the landlord has pre-existing hooks then that’s great, but if not then don’t worry as there are plenty free standing photo frames that provide the same effect. Scatter the place with your personal trinkets, charms and sentiments. You can also add stickers to your windows or magnets to your fridges and radiators for some extra bling.
