We know moving into a new rental home can be both exciting and daunting in equal measures. Which is why we work closely with both our property owners and our new tenants to ensure your move-in day is as stress-free as possible.
Want to know how to move into a rental home stress-free? Read on for the advice we give to our new tenants…
What to do on moving day
Every Cotswold rental property should come with a detailed inventory and check-in procedure. Pay attention to the inventory list and don’t be afraid to flag up anything that has been missed off or is slightly different to what is listed.
The check-in process is where you should switch lights on and off, check for loose door handles, make sure all appliances are in full working order and generally have a close look at everything in the property.
You should also find out where the electrical mains board is – handy for power cuts – and the water stop tap.
It is also the opportunity for you to check you have a key to every door, window, meter reading cupboard etc. Ask to be taken through what each and every key is for, and if there are more than about 3 or 4 keys it can also be a good idea to take a picture of each key alongside a little note stating what that key is for.
We always recommend getting an additional spare set cut for the main external doors too, just in case.
How to manage moving all the boxes
Once the admin side of things is complete a great tip to make unpacking quicker and more efficient is to try to put the boxes into the right rooms as you are unloading them. That’s assuming you remembered to label up all your boxes first!
And on the topic of boxes, always make sure you have packed a box of essentials to open first. Your kettle, mugs, milk, tea-bags/coffee and sugar always come in handy. So does a bottle of fizz and champagne flutes 🥂
Once the last box is in (maybe not totally unpacked) it is time to sit back, relax and start to enjoy life in our favourite place on earth – The Cotswolds 💕
