Set along a quiet farm track in the heart of the Painswick Valley, Stable Cottage offers a peaceful escape surrounded by classic Cotswold countryside. The setting feels wonderfully secluded, yet within easy reach of local walks and pubs.
The cottage opens into a spacious, open-plan living area with wooden flooring, a vaulted ceiling, and striking exposed timber beams. A comfortable seating area is arranged around a wood-burning stove and Smart TV, while the well-equipped kitchen and dining space provide everything needed for a relaxed self-catering stay. A rear door leads out to stone steps and a small lawn with bistro seating—perfect for a morning coffee.
A staircase leads down to three light-filled bedrooms and bathrooms. The main bedroom features a king-size bed and ensuite shower room, while the second bedroom has full-size bunk beds (ideal for children) and the third is a generous single room. A family bathroom and separate WC complete the layout.
Outside, the cottage has a private front garden with a lawn, cherry tree, and outdoor dining table, enclosed by hedging for added privacy. A second seating area can be accessed from the rear. Guests also have use of an all-weather tennis court within the owners’ grounds. Parking is available for one car, with space for an additional vehicle nearby.
Stable Cottage sits just outside the historic village of Painswick, often referred to as the “Queen of the Cotswolds,” known for its honey-coloured stone buildings, narrow streets, and elevated position overlooking the beautiful Five Valleys. The setting offers a real sense of seclusion, yet the village itself is only a short drive (or a longer scenic walk), giving guests the best of both countryside tranquillity and easy access to local amenities.
In the village, you’ll find a handful of welcoming pubs, cafés, and everyday essentials. Popular spots include The Falcon Inn, a characterful Georgian pub serving seasonal food, and The Painswick, known for its refined dining and relaxed terrace setting. There’s also a small village shop and regular local market stalls offering fresh produce and baked goods, while more extensive shopping can be found nearby.
For a wider choice of shops, supermarkets, and independent eateries, the market town of Stroud is around 10–15 minutes away by car. Stroud is particularly well known for its award-winning farmers’ market and thriving arts scene, making it a great place to explore during your stay. Slightly further afield, the Regency town of Cheltenham offers boutique shopping, restaurants, and cultural events, while Cirencester provides a classic market-town atmosphere with Roman heritage and a range of independent shops.
The surrounding area is ideal for walking and outdoor activities. The Painswick Beacon is nearby, offering panoramic views across the Cotswolds and beyond, while the Cotswold Way passes through the village, making this an excellent base for walkers. You’ll also find attractions such as Painswick Rococo Garden, along with plenty of scenic woodland and valley walks right from the doorstep.
Despite its peaceful, rural feel, the cottage remains well connected. The nearest train station is in Stroud, with regular services to London Paddington in around 90 minutes, making it an accessible countryside retreat.
