Things to do

Winter is definitely here, and Christmas is only just around the corner! That means cosy fires, the smell of pine needles and mulled wine – maybe even some more snow?

Christmas is always a great time to visit the Cotswolds. Whether you’re planning a Christmas break, or you live locally and want to get into the spirit of the season, there’s plenty to do out & about or in; why not just hunker down & indulge in some true Cotswolds comforts?

Christmas Carols

Upcoming Events

4pm on Saturday 11th December

Drink & be merry whilst enjoying an afternoon of Christmas carols at The Wild Rabbit.

Children from Kingham Primary School will be getting you all in the festive spirit, singing your favourite carols under the lights of the modern British inn’s big Christmas tree.

An enchanted place full of festive activities, The Green Dragon Elves will guide you on a magical journey through the Enchanted Forest where you’ll encounter the Wishing Tree & decorate your own special wish. In amongst the snow in the forest you’ll search for special golden coins hidden underneath… For that extra special festive feeling, reindeer from their resident reindeer herd will be joining in the fun along with all the other animals!

9 December 2021 – 12 December 2021

The Stow-on-the-Wold Christmas tree festival is a wonderful community event with a colourful display of Christmas trees decorated by children and organisations in the town adorning St Edward’s Church. Afterwards, shop for Christmas goodies in the independent boutiques and shops of Stow.

After-dark illuminated trail through festive gardens

It’s the most wonderful time of the year when over a million lights, lasers and seasonal sounds fill the air with festive fun at Stourhead. Discover sparkling tunnels of light, dancing lakeside reflections and trees drenched in jewel-like colour and don’t forget to glimpse Father Christmas along the way.

A selection of talented independent street food vendors bring a delicious twist to tasty treats & tipples on offer including *spiced winter warmer or *hot chocolate shared with someone special.

The Cotswolds is brimming with community spirit. Ask any Cotswolds resident & they will rave about the value of village life, care for their community & upholding the local traditions. Our Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is maintained through local fundraising, charities & profound respect for this beautiful part of the world.

You’ll find no shortage of book clubs, textile groups, history societies, table tennis ladders, lunch clubs, cricket clubs, yoga classes & a huge number of events run by schools & other fundraisers. More informally, there’s also plenty of local, cosy pubs that cater perfectly for diners & drinkers to meet & have a good chin wag.

And we all know our favourite place has a jam-packed calendar throughout the year with the world-famous arts & literature festivals, theatrical productions, music events & exhibitions from Cheltenham Literary Festival to major musical events like the Wilderness Festival, or the Big Feastival, bringing people together from all over the country.

But what makes The Cotswolds just that little more special & brings the local communities together are the quirkier events like The Cotswold Olimpick Games, Tetbury Wool Sack Races, local food markets, it being the perfect time to wander round some of our unique local Christmas markets!
